Meeting with Commissioner Rader: Briarlake/Briarcliff Basin Study

  • Toco Hill-Avis G. Williams Library (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Our Commissioner will discuss results of the recent study of flooding and sediment at Briarlake/Briarcliff intersection and three different options for reducing these problems. This is a great opportunity to learn more, ask questions, and voice your support for public funding to reduce flooding and sediment that impairs emergency response vehicles and the health of our lake; threatens the safety of Echo Lake residents; Lakeside students and staff, pedestrians, and motorists; and erodes our property values. Public funds have not yet been allocated for mitigation efforts so your voice is important!

For questions about the meeting, please email ELHA member Katy Irwin at kathleenirwin66@gmail.com

Community Meeting: Actions to Protect Your Safety, Home, and Fragile Watershed

Community Meeting: Actions to Protect Your Safety, Home, and Fragile Watershed

Worried about dangerous flooding at Briarcliff Road and Lakeside school? Surprised by new flood insurance requirements? Concerned that local ponds have become buggy swamps? Frustrated by overflowing storm drains and eroded stream banks?

If so, join your neighbors to learn about the fragile watersheds in our community around Echo Lake, Greeley Lake, Doreen Lake, Lake Flair, and Kingscliff Lake.

Tom Shillock, the State of Georgia's Flood Plain Manager and local resident, will describe steps that government agencies are taking in our area to monitor and mitigate flood risk, manage storm waters, and prevent encroachment on stream banks that protect against flooding and sedimentation. Other experts will describe steps citizens like you can take to reduce flooding and erosion; to support native trees, plants, and wildlife; and to protect their personal safety, property, and quality of life.

All adults and teens are welcome to attend this free event. It will take place in the main sanctuary at Briarcliff United Methodist Church, at the corner of Shallowford and Briarcliff Roads. Light refreshments will be served.

For questions about the meeting, please contact:

Katy Irwin, Member
Echo Lake Homeowners Association

This free community meeting is sponsored by the North Briarcliff Civic Association, an association of members of ELHA and other nearby homeowners associations.
